OLD HABITS DIE HARD AND CHANGE IS TOUGH

Dear students,

The saying holds true when it said old habits die hard and change is hard. I don't know how many of you dear students including my former students straying somewhere on greener pastures will read this. Most importantly after reading is you benefit a thing or two out of the reflection.

After all we are after success which we ourselves don't really know what true success is. Some of you may think getting a few As is already a success and the like of Saiful getting a B out of nine is a calamity. Thank God he got all As. The others , the like of Ain, Pia , tikkah may think that being able to land themselves at a new school and join science stream is already an achievement. But , I am of the view that success is very relative and to me it is good news or we will forever be a servant of the most sought after word. The word that people always want to be associated with.

Enough for me, a school teacher teaching the like of you if i can make you think. You might ask yourself then that you have been thinking for so many years since time immemorial. Have you ever discovered that i made mistakes and I did admit that right in front of you all after you alerted me of that mistakes . I did the mistakes out of my imperfection and flaw not on purpose. I am just a teacher not as a sole authority of knowledge beyond question. True teacher, like a true enemy lies within yourself. Your curiosity and unsatiable desire to seek knowledge , to challenge the establishment to uncover the truths will set you free.

Remember the path of least resistence is for losers. It always looks safe to be on the safe sides but you achieve nothing if your decision is always out of fear or provocative words. Face and conquer the fear !It is hard but like old habits, they die hard as change itself is tough beyond explain. Until now, I am not sure whether or not i have produced thinking students. But if someone asks me now i will definitely say no. Yups! not a single student! why? then you have to think!

JUST ENJOY THE SHOW

Dearest students,

Today, in the afternoon minutes before Zuhr, the sun is hot just like a giant spotlight. I've received such responses from 3D students who were tired due to their sport practice and intolerable hot weather. (Okay guys, I love your attempt at using Lenka's lyric in your English conversation which indicates minutes we spend singing the song in class is fruitful.) Such a scorching hot weather is capable of killing 3D's enthusiasm to learn and to do all the tasks assigned. I could see many sleepy heads were about to land their already heavy head onto the desk. The well-known Redang Islander was getting restless so in an attempt to avoid himself from sleeping while teacher was teaching, he asked for permission to go to the toilet. Sopi, normally active in class, suddenly fell into deep silence during today's class.

However, I could see something in all of you which excites me and gives me hope in the midst of the school life full of unrequited tasks. I do as a human, dislike some of the tasks assigned to me (but then just enjoy the show!). I love to see all of you, despite the tiredness and the hot weather, tried the best forcing yourself to accomplish the writing task in a manner as good as possible. It was fun seeing you all doing the work. The sleepy heads turned to heads with an active brains searching and brainstorming for ideas! Love to entertain your curiousity!

Well, you may not be used to writing regularly but I hope to turn this activity into something that you really enjoy and I do think it's impossible looking at how passionate most of you to finish the writing entitled 'If I won 10,000 dollars.' Okay some of you have come up with many way too creative ideas like opening a chalet/restaurant in Redang Island, travelling around the world, marrying me LOL and etc. but that is the most important thing in writing, to think out of the box! Bear in mind though that scholars ease their tensions/stress by writing, So all of you can do the same as well.

Paolo Coehlo said that the best allies (for those who want to be good writers) are those who don't think like others. And to add more he also said, "Your allies will not necessarily be those that everyone looks on with admiration and says: “there’s nobody better”. It’s very much the opposite: it’s people who are not afraid of making mistakes, and yet they do make mistakes. That is why their work is not always recognized. But that’s the type of people who change the world, and after many mistakes they manage to get something right that will make all the difference in their community."

So dear students never give up in writing and keep improving yourself from time to time as through writing you can change the world. Remember, be the change you want to see.
Miss Farah just can't wait to see you write again next week :)

REFLECTION: CHECKING INTENTIONS

I do whine a lot being a human-being. I try to remember what a good IPBA friend of mine said, 'complaining won't make you look beautiful'. She is right so now I am feeling so ugly haha. There are times I cannot sleep at night thinking about things with regards to work and myself. So, this friend of mine will remind me that it is better to spend time thinking about the Ummah rather than asking questions pertaining to own self. It is quite embarrassing as I also used to give the same advice to friends of mine years back when they were facing personal unpleasant occurences. And my lovely mom also used to say 'people without aspiration only thinks about self.'

Feeling so ashamed and disgusted with myself, my mind starts to wander thinking about the 4th Chaliphate, Umar Al-Khattab who during time of sleep, only dreamt about ways of developing the Ummah. The most astounding example is the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) who at the last few of his breath, the word 'Ummati, Ummati' means my Ummah, my Ummah kept uttering from his lips. Their love for the Ummah is so deep more than they love themselves. What a shame! for I still feeling weak to face all the challenges that lie ahead in front of me. Often at times, I feel guilty for feeling envious of friends who are now in the midst of achieving their own personal dreams while i am the one who should be the most grateful to Allah for letting me to spend my time doing as much as possible to the young people of the Ummah, in pursuit of their own dreams. Sometimes I do wonder which one grants more satisfaction, pursuing own dreams or helping others to pursue their dreams?

Is there anything nobler than doing everything based on the reason that it will benefit the Ummah. What is our benchmark in deciding things for us? What is our main priority?

Am I here just to teach English? No, learning English is not only to pass the exam with flying colours, it is about how you can change the Ummah with this weapon called English language as it is a language of knowledge or like Cikgu Zainun told you during Sejarah period, lingua franca. And Francis Bacon puts it, 'Knowledge is Power.' By all means, to understand the world, let alone to conquer it you must understand English!

Are we game enough to base all of our decisions for the sake of Allah? Walking the talk is definitely harder than the talk. The world is so full of beauty (according to our 'nafs standard) that is difficult for us to say no to. But we only need what we need. Qouting Gibran, 'beauty is only an ecstasy, not a need'.

BE YOURSELF

Dearest,

It was a mixed feeling to know this afternoon that Saiful is leaving his SMAS after serving for three years moulding his and his fellow friends' character to be someone. He gave us teachers big smiles when he proved his mettle to bag all As to his possession. I knew this news days before from his very mouth after knowing that the meeting between his dad and Mr. Ghazak was a fruitful one.

They say 'if there is a will there is a way'. Little Basayev, the Island Man and the fearsome stopper and not to forget anahus await him there. It is hoped the five of you will make a difference and to quote what Ghandi once said ' be the change you want to see'. Everything starts from your very own self.

If you were to ask me a piece of advice i would say 'be yourself'. All the best!

HAIL THE SPIRIT OF TIGER INTO SERIE A

Dear students,

Sparing a four- day break doing nothing is something i regret myself most as i have lots of things to attend ,only fail to walk the talking mind. It is hoped today's newest day of tiger year drags us along with its spirit of bravery, agility and fearlessless. Moreover, one thing that sets tigers apart from other animals is her focus and independence. It seems we need to be more focused with our task at hand, be more independent and creative to face the days to come.

Some of you have fared well during last five games. But, still there are always rooms for improvement though you registered almost perfect score ( 38/40) as you still have the remaining 35 matches to complete before the D day to be held in October. Are you surprised when i just mentioned 35? 35 times 40 equals 1600. Only then, mathematically you surpassed the standard required to skillfully dribble the ball past the opponent , chip the ball and strike straight into the goal post to the thunderous applause from the fans inside and outside the stadium.

All you need now is the spirit of tiger. Be bold and brave, focused and most importantly quick and nimble. I need to rush to Musolla now for Maghrib prayers as nimble as tiger nab its prey! haha..at least i am trying to emulate one. How about you, dear students?

ON SERIE A & EPL

Dear students,

I thought gone are the days when we, teachers and you all kept talking about epl updates. The epl most prolific players like the guardians ranging from saiful edil syamil mat yie eliyyah e je ..just to name the few have tasted the sweetness of the epl fruits. so sweet that we teachers could hardly put in words. Though some of them may not fare well in other subjects but they could at least brat themselves for getting A for once a killer subject. But, the fact is now 2010 pmr candidates still use the word coined by your very batch. We changed it to serie A to retain its exclusiveness. And for sure, change is hard as epl is already like a brand.

Realising it or not. You batch of pmr 2009 have helped us a great deal for shaping the present generation of pmr a focus and daring them to dream when they themselves could hardly believe. You made them awake for the fact that success is like just a stone's throw away from you. The testimonial was there, only to spruce up.

You make our tasks easier and believable. Most importantly the approaches that we Miss Farah and I were once probing in the dark of finding the most 'lethal' means to bring your English to greater height that was unheard before. You were once our 'experiment' only we are relieved to find that our experiment bore fruits so sweet that we could not bear to eat.

It is hoped this year, we manage to establish another product that is serie A, a product purposely geared up by ipbarians Miss Farah and I(though kdc only haha) solely to churn out more achievers for English among us pmr candidates 2010. Descartes once screamed ' Cogito ergo sum' means I think therefore I am.. only when we have a vivid image in mind what we are going to be, lest we remain the same old man. Though, I am still contempleting what i have jotted down haha.

OF YESTERDAY

Gone is yesterday
Lost but remain haunted for yesterday
..is but yesterday
They yelled or screamed not but yesterday
As yesterday offered them life anew for its yesterday

Hardly could we fathom if yesterday exists not
Where pains and apprehensions to be kept locked
When time is the best healer after others could not
Yesterday keeps admonishing though people heed not

Let loose of yesterday for today is going to be another yesterday
For today is a breeding ground for better yesterday

Tend our today's garden
As only this can promise us heavenly position
Nothing to gain should we remain inaction.

Sir

Hard to say Goodbye

I hate to say good-bye
Yet we have to say farewell
For we shall meet again
That I can foretell

The future is unpredictable
Tomorrow is uncertain
Keep our laughs and memoirs
But I wish you have no burden

We shall keep on learning
Remain as students and become as mentors
Face the unknown with confident yearning
Pursue our life endeavors

Farewell, my friends,
I utter it with pain
Farewell, my friends,
In sunshine or in rain

Farewell, my friends,
This day would come, we knew
Our dreams we shall pursue
For now, my friends,

Wherever we are, whatever condition, don't forget our colorful memories in 2009.

Not to forget to thank to all the teacher that struggle to teach us till we pass the exam with flying colours. Especially for Mr. Y And Miss. Farah
